Class
Reading Explorations
Guided reading around classics, book series, poetry, discussion, response projects, and shared noticing beyond simply finishing a book.
This class
- Students read selected books, excerpts, or poems during the week and come together for one live online class event
- Live time can include discussion, character and theme mapping, close reading, comparison, and creative response work
- Past and possible selections include works such as Anne of Green Gables, The Jungle Book, Oz stories, Treasure Island, Aesop's Fables, Gulliver's Travels, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Moby-Dick excerpts, and poetry
- The goal is not just finishing the reading, but learning how to notice, explain, connect, and respond to it
What families should know
- Reading load, book selections, and groupings vary by age, readiness, and session theme
- Some sessions may include written, spoken, illustrated, or media-based response work
- Students should expect to discuss what they notice and support their ideas from the text
- Families receive the specific text list and expectations before a session begins
